- In my multifamily career, landing a spot on an apartment association's Board of Directors stands out as a pivotal standout moment. Reflecting both personal and collaborative victories in my seven-year journey, starting as an ambitious intern at 20, I navigated my way up to the inaugural Account Executive, spearheading an entirely new division that earned a top 5 geographic footprint and was recognized with awards like Supplier Executive of the Year. These were more than just checkboxes; they were moments that truly validated my career goals. Recently obtaining a pivotal role with an industry-leading property management software company further solidifies my dedication. Yet, what truly resonates is the collective triumph—a tale of innovative leadership, industry nods, and surpassing expectations. Picture this: early in my career, as a bright-eyed intern and later as an Account Executive opening a new division, I often found myself not being taken seriously, facing skepticism from seasoned professionals. It was like being the rookie in a room full of veterans, with no one knowing me, and me not knowing anyone in the industry. I had to make a name for myself.
In revisiting that scenario, armed with the wisdom I've acquired, I would approach it differently. Instead of letting doubt creep in, I would embrace my unique perspective as a supplier and leverage my knowledge of the industry to showcase the value I bring. I'd initiate open conversations, sharing insights, and demonstrating a deep understanding of the multifamily landscape. Confidence, backed by genuine expertise, would replace any insecurity.
Rather than seeing youth as a limitation, I'd position it as an asset, bringing fresh ideas and innovative solutions to the table.
Today, still navigating the industry in my late twenties, being labeled "young" isn't a limitation; rather, it's a badge of evolving wisdom.
